Technical Minds Fundamentals of Dynamic Team Leadership Ara Nazarian
True story: I had an office next to a new hire who reported to Ara. Toward the end of the new guy's first week, Ara asked him what he had accomplished so far. The guy said "Nothing, because IT hasn't given me a monitor yet." Ara replied, "If you are ever blocked like that again, you go out and buy what you need and expense it." At that moment I knew that Ara was a guy who "gets it", who truly understands that engineers are your most valuable asset and that making them as productive as possible is a manager's most important job. If you need convincing, consider that a $200 monitor is nothing compared to delivering a project late and losing business as a result.I read Ara's book cover to cover and found it to be sensible, practical, and actionable. It is based on real-world experience, and as an engineer I can say that several managers I have had would have been far better had they followed this book's advice.

Technical Minds Fundamentals of Dynamic Team Leadership Ara Nazarian Reviews
This is an excellent book for everyone who is or would be a Manager, Director, VP, CEO, or leader of any type. It is my honor to have worked in the large team at Western Digital that Ara lead masterfully per all the principles and kindness enumerated in this book. This book truly shows you how to be a very successful great leader. Ara credits Marc Nussbaum, whom I also worked for at WDC, and Marc is another great leader. Those of us who have worked under Ara (Mr. Nazarian), worked hard and all had personal success, income, and benefits due to his leadership and always looking out for us. Buy this book, read it, and apply it. IMHO, then your success will be assured. Thank you Mr. Ara Nazarian for sharing these extremely important principles and ideas of real leadership.
Technical Minds is an incredible book for anyone who is transitioning into management. The vast majority with specialized foundations can get overseeing plans and spending plans. Technical Minds is a fabulous succinct aide for any individual who needs to sort out individuals to achieve an objective. As the book lays out, authority through common appreciation, strengthening and incorporation will dependably be best. A great guide.
I am an engineer that is first starting to to guide a highly talented technical team. I'm making organizational decisions, system technical decisions, and trying to motivate and encourage the team. This resource was an excellent help for me to learn skills that I am in need of immediately. For anyone who is interested in being a better leader for engineers in particular, this book will definitely help! I particularly enjoyed the chapter on "Inspire and Energize", "Surface and Face the 'Brutal Reality'", and "Understand that the Right People Are Your Best Assets".
I have immediately begun to change my attitude and approach with interactions with the goal of inspiring, using the techniques and the examples outlined in the book. I am very happy with the results. I also appreciated aspects of the book that I haven't even considered before, such as being sure to reward people fairly and consistently. I never realized how important it is to be consistent in praise/rewards as well as being aware of the biases of personality that can be injected in a workplace - and how rewards should solely be based on performance.
Utterly generic, inane advice that boils down to, "Be thoughtful and don't be a dick". Filled with superfluous, contrived "examples" that are far too extreme to be relatable.
This might be better than nothing for socially inept people who have had only horrible managers, but there are so many better alternatives to this <90 page pamphlet; for example, Paul Glen's "The Geek Leader's Handbook" is orders of magnitude more helpful and insightful.
As someone that honestly has dealt with this, tech managers can be the worst. I have quite a few prior managers that really should read this book. Mr. No Comprendo really hit home. Tech managers that have no idea what the technology is or what each person does are so difficult to work under and for. Also, the review and reward system is perfect as I have worked under both types of bosses. One that gave me more incentives (higher raise) for working harder and ones that have given the same amount to me as the guy who took three hour lunches and never showed up on time. I definitely did not feel motivated to show up to work on time or even come back from lunch after one hour once the raises were handed out.
I hope that as this gets out to business professionals, more and more companies require their newly promoted or hired managers to read this book. For any manager trying to learn the best way to be a manager, do yourself a favor and read this book!!
